Created by God is an amazing family retreat for 5th Graders and their parent or guardians. This retreat stresses the importance of communication during this pivotal time in a child’s development. Our event combines laughter with knowledge, worship with study, and challenges with practical advice.
Scott Maxwell, a columnist for the Orlando Sentinel attended last year with his son. He shared his experience in a column that was published in the Sentinel. See some quotes from his column here:
“Throughout the weekend, that's how it went. Sessions followed by playtime and prayers. A lot of laughter. A lot of eye-opening.”
“Some of the best sessions for parents dealt with the Internet and social media. I loved the advice that encouraged parents to do more than just monitor their kids' Facebook and Instagram accounts. "Like" their pictures of funny cats. "LOL" at their jokes. Don't just swoop in to lecture them every time they post something inappropriate … though do that as well.”
“Still, as I looked at that gaggle of laughing kids, I realized that the weekend had helped remove the "naughtiness" from basic words and principles. If a kid at school starts talking about things now, my son won't have to nervously giggle about something he doesn't understand. It will be old hat — something so routine he discussed it with his dad. He'll be more mature.”
