The first few weeks after summer camp are always weird. It's quiet, too quiet. All of the campers and counselors have gone home to prepare for school to  and much of our year round staff are taking some well earned vacation. God moved in big ways at camp this summer. Through studying the life of Christ and the seasons of the church calendar we learned how to live a life worth living. The memories of this summer will have to last us all year until we are all able to get back together and do this crazy thing all over again. Until then, here are some photos to help you remember.

Summer 2015 Curriculum

Posted by Shawn Fordham

Jul 7, 2015 6:08:10 PM

Every year in the early spring, a group of curriculum writers gather to begin dreaming for the following summer. The ideas from that meeting are crafted and formatted into what will become the theme for that summer. The team members are taught this curriculum during orientation week and use it to create the flow of a week at camp and to teach the campers about God in a fun way. Within this curriculum is a schedule of what to teach and when to teach it so the team members are able to comfortably guide a small group.

New Skills for Summer 2015

Posted by Shawn Fordham

Jun 23, 2015 2:33:30 PM

Every week, campers get to sign up for different activities at camp that we call skills. On Monday evenings, the campers are read a list of the skills that are offered and get to sign up for four different skills they would like to participate in throughout the week. Recently a survey was taken by the counselors where they were asked which skills they found to be the most popular ones at camp. In fourth place was ultimate Frisbee which has been a skill for a long time. In third place was gaga ball which is an activity that camp added three summers ago. In second place was High Ropes which involves some high flying fun on our high ropes course. In first place, our three water sports came together to form the most fun activity at camp. Our water sports are sailing, canoeing, and tubing.

Leadership Team Orientation

Posted by Shawn Fordham

Jun 17, 2015 9:13:50 AM

Orientation is a ten day training period before the first week of camp where all of the summer’s counselors come together and learn the “How To’s” of being a camp counselor. The time is also used for the team members to grow as coworkers, and more importantly a community. The community that is formed during orientation week is often compared to that of a family. We learn to trust each other, love each other, and grow together as Christians. It is through this growth that we learn how to minister to the thousands of campers we see each summer.

Summer Trip Camps

Feb 11, 2015 2:23:54 PM

Trip camping has a long tradition in the Florida United Methodist Conference. Before there was even a permanent Methodist camp here in Florida, groups were taking trips to explore camp sites and trails around the country. We continue that tradtion every summer with three weeks of trip camps. These weeks are meant to allow high school students to spend a week in God's creation hiking, canoeing, rafting, climbing, caving, and camping. Here are some photos from last years summer trip camps:

Every year, I look forward to my week at camp as an Adult Volunteer (AV)!  I come back with a worn out body (I go ALL OUT during praise time!), but a renewed mind and spirit.
